November 15, 2008 - Updated Newest Magazine Contents
I've updated the information for the new issue of Heavy Metal, Fall 2008. November 13, 2008 - Movie Updates A little bit of Heavy Metal movie news from Kevin Eastman's What's On blog, and his post on the forums. The biggest news is probably that it looks like they might be going back to Paramount, instead of Sony Pictures. But the best news is that Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski are now officially on board to each direct one segment! Also, there's news on the Fistful Of Blood movie being back on. See Kevin's What's On My Brain for all the details. October 29, 2008 - Previews For Spring Issue I've updated the Dates page with the latest Previews catalog information for the Spring 2009 issue. Previews reads, "Argstein", part two takes readers into 1800's Germany where only the fist and the rifle of
the Förster stand between these denizens of an elemental world and the human inhabitants of the Argstein valley. The issue also features the second part of "Descur". October 29, 2008 - New Heavy Metal Issue The new issue of Heavy Metal is out. Fall 2008 is now available. MetalTV.com has some sample pages from it. October 22, 2008 - As Seen On TV Thanks to Madbandit for spotting another reference to Heavy Metal in a movie. This time it's in the 2007 movie "Teeth". See my As Seen On TV list for pics and details. October 15, 2008 - Updated Collector's List I've added one more movie to my Collector's List. "God Hates Cartoons" is a collection of weird shorts, much like the style of StripTease. Although the only character from the movie that has been in Heavy Metal, is the Frank short by Jim Woodring. October 14, 2008 - Collector's List Updated Again, thanks to Jean and his great collection, I've added the "Heavy Metal" Logo Soundtrack Pin to the Collector's List. However, I don't actually know where this was originally available. October 13, 2008 - Baba Yaga (aka Valentina) Added To Movies Page There's one movie that I didn't add to my Collector's List update yesterday. That's because Valentina has been in many issues, so I'm listing it's 1973 movie, Baba Yaga, in my Movies page. I filled out the info I had, and I'll fill out the rest when I get a chance. October 12, 2008 - Updated Collector's List I've added some more movies and such to my Collector's List. I've listed these here instead of my Movies page because the stories have only been in one or two issues. "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" was in December 1977. "Dawn Of The Dead" was in October 1978. "Buck Rogers" was in September 1979. "Silver Bullet" was called "Cycle Of The Werewolf" in December 1983. There are also some movies that aren't out yet. "Shannara" in April 1977 will be 2 movies for 2009 and 2010. "Elric of Melniboné" in September and November 1979 will be a trilogy of movies starting 2010. "Paradise Lost" in January 1980 will be a movie in 2009. "Bone" in Fall 1997 should be a movie sometime. September 26, 2008 - Updated Newest Magazine Contents I've updated the information for the new issue of Heavy Metal, November 2008. September 24, 2008 - Two Reprinted Stories In going through some of my issues, I came across 2 stories that had previously been printed in older issues. The story "Bird Dust" in January 1984 was previously printed in November 1977 with a slightly different translation. But even more so, the story "A Mudwog Tale" from May 1981 was reprinted in September 2005. Not only did it have slightly different writing, but also the art was touched up in places, and the 2005 version eliminated one page. I've updated my Magazine List. September 22, 2008 - Black Sabbath's E5150 It took me this long to realise that the DVD credits for Heavy Metal: The Movie are missing one song. Just before Black Sabbath's song, The Mob Rules, is part of their instrumental song, E5150. I've updated my Movies page. September 20, 2008 - Barbarella No More It seems in late July at the San Diego Comic Con, Robert Rodriguez announced he won't be making the Barbarella movie, so he can instead work on making Red Sonja. So, I've removed the new Barbarella from the Movies page. September 19, 2008 - Zen Items The story, Zen: Intergalactic Ninja had some action figures made, and a 1993 game for the NES and Game Boy. However, because this story has only been in a few issues so far, I'm just briefly mentioning these items in the Collector's List. September 19, 2008 - Updated Previous Magazine Contents I've updated the information for the previous issue of Heavy Metal, September 2008. The variant cover also looks good as a Wallpaper. September 19, 2008 - Updated Summer 2008 Magazine Contents I've updated the information for the Summer 2008 issue of Heavy Metal. September 19, 2008 - Writers For The New Movie In trying to play catch-up to any news I may have missed over the past few months, Entertainment Weekly reported back in July about the new movie no longer with Paramount (old news, now that we know it's with Sony Pictures instead). But in the article they mentioned a few writers I didn't know about that are involved with the film. They are Steve Niles, Joe Haldeman, and Neal Asher. September 19, 2008 - Heavy Metal: The Movie DVD With Digital Copy I've updated the page for Heavy Metal: The Movie. Another DVD version came out in August. Comparing it to the original Collector's Edition, the main differences are that the new version comes with a Digital Copy, so you can play the movie on your PC, PSP, or PS3 without the disc. However, the new version is also missing the art galleries, 5.1 surround sound, and the feature-length rough cut. If you're curious, see my movie page for the exact differences. September 18, 2008 - Nate Van Dyke Toy I've updated the Toys section to include a new toy that came out a couple months ago. It's the chimp, Dutch, by Nate Van Dyke from various stories in Heavy Metal Magazine. September 17, 2008 - New Heavy Metal Issue The new issue of Heavy Metal is out. November 2008 is now available.
