Atoll of Troll by: Joseph Michael Meeks INT. INTRODUCTION TO CHARACTERS All the characters are shown in one place they will meet later and the day before this film takes place. Then a pause with the name of the character and the actor playing him. A song will play and stop at these brief moments. FADE IN: Dead of winter introduction. Windblown snow wipes the screen. EXT. WINTER INTRODUCTION It was the dead of winter (mid-season) when the snowfall reminds you only of how utterly cold and savage it is elsewhere outside. To the animals that would have to suffer through this season until the ushering in of the next, any death was a fair death; so long as it was a means to survive for the predator. The snow would surely blanket the corpses so that the season itself would not appear quite as dark and savage as the brightness of the snow would lead one not to believe. DISSOLVE TO: INT. BEDROOM OF THE EMPATH Empath: As I laid in bed I could not help but listen to the yelps and cries of some stray dog outside. At first I had assumed this poor creature must have turned into a meal for the other dogs that wandered about this same forest. I had heard the other dogs earlier but now only the one remained. I related to this animal. Not with the animal itself but perhaps its pain and so I was driven out of bed to investigate. Snatching my coat and a flashlight I headed for the door. I stopped just a few steps from the door when the yelps and cries stopped. Somehow I felt that this dim flashlight would not be enough so I scuffled over to the bed and retrieved my Colt .45 automatic from beneath the mattress. God have mercy on the sad sap that should startle me. I walked toward the direction I had last heard the hairy mongrel but cautiously. I had no desire to break the ice of a pond and drown or walk off the edge of a cliff disguised by snow nor would I be the next meal for some drooling, overgrown, fur-ball with teeth. FADE OUT. FADE IN: EXT. IN THE WOODS AND UP THE TREE I found no signs of foul play, the bobcat had obviously picked the wrong prey or perhaps it was the prey. None the less this lifeless pussy-cat was no more. But who? What killed it? Was it still around? Lurking in the woods... Watching me?! Then it happened. The bastard had hit me in the back of the head... I could still feel the chill running down my neck to the bottom of my spine. Who's there?!? I remained calm of course, I could show no signs of fear or I might end up like the bob-cat lying next to me. There was nothing, no-one there. Could I have imagined it all, then it happened again. Now it was toying with me, it wanted me to know the futility of a struggle with this bizarre creature. Goddamn-it! Show yourself you spineless weenie. My vocabulary had diminished greatly, I was frightened and he knew it! However my intuition as an empath and a thorough investigator told me to look up. There it was, the hideous creature was sitting there on a tree branch... Watching me... Playing with itself as if it was trying to say something. Cinematography of EXT. IN THE WOODS AND UP THE TREE The empath however sarcastic or exaggerated about his reactions under the situation remained very jumpy and frightened throughout the cinematography of the above scene. When he says "Who, what killed it? Was it still around? Watching me?" he whispers in his mind as he looks nervously and intensely in all directions around him. When the snow falling from the tree limb hits his back the intoxicated man jumps and grabs his neck as if he was shot. When the empath claims his intuition led him to look up it was actually because he dropped to his knees rambling some pathetic prayer to god however vulgar his language may be. The dog on the tree limb appears as one of the ugliest mutts he had ever seen however he does relate with the odd dog because he himself is odd. Yes the dog is licking its genitals.
